Divorce Cases after 1980

If you are searching for a divorce case that occurred within the past forty years, please get the case file number by speaking with the county circuit court where the divorce occurred, or through Maryland Judiciary Case Search.

Divorce Cases before 1980

If you are searching for divorce cases older than the 1980’s, we suggest using one of the indexes below to get the case file number.

Already have your divorce case number?

You can go straight to the records for your county listed below and skip the index.

Many divorce case files are located offsite. If you need to view or get a copy of a divorce record, please contact us.

Divorce records in the possession of the Archives vary considerably by date depending on the jurisdiction. In order to locate a divorce file it is necessary to know:

  • the county that granted the divorce
  • case number (can be found in indexes)
  • names of the parties
  • the approximate date

What can I do from home?

If you do not know the case number for the divorce, then you’ll want to search the index for the county where the divorce was filed if it is available online.

An index provides the information needed by our staff to locate the record if you want to place an order for record. Indexes are a listing by the last name of the person who filed the case. Many of these indexes include cases besides divorces, such as foreclosures and other disputes.

What years do we have divorce records?

Years vary depending on the county, so please use this guide to help determine if we have the record you need.
