Marriage Records

Introduction

To find a record, you'll need to use the archives' search room computers. Copies of records are available to order online. If you have questions, please feel free to contact us directly at msa.helpdesk@maryland.gov. The search room is available by appointment only. You must request an appointment and be sent a confirmed time before visiting the Archives. We cannot accommodate walk-ins. Request an appointment so that our staff can best assist you.

What can I do from home?

You can search online indexes. An index provides the information needed by our staff. Marriage record indexes are usually an alphabetical listing by either the grooms’ names or the brides’ names.

What years do we have marriage records?

From the mid 1600s to 2013*

I would like to find a record before 1951

Recommended only if you have done research before. Visit our FAQs and / or the Tips for Hard to Find Marriage Records for help. Call or email as needed, as the record formats and legibility vary greatly, so we do not have a step-by-step guide to finding these records.

If you are new to research, then we recommend you either place an order or contact a professional genealogist for assistance.

*For marriage certificates after 2013, contact the circuit court in the county where the marriage occurred or contact the Division of Vital Records at (410) 764-3038
